Unbelievably we’ve had quite a few successful weeks with the team, we firstly had Ronaldo out XC schooling where he started off like a nervous wreck but refused to have any help off the horse we took with us as a lead! We had some brilliant advice from Helen Bell on what to work on with him, and he took it all in his stride hopefully with a few more successful confidence giving rounds of training he will be ready to go out and start his BE season again. Ronaldo has been having some intense show jumping and grid work training to try and encourage him pick up more quickly in front and to help with his athleticism.
Sonny has been working on his dressage and has begun to enjoy it! Who knows he may even start doing some pure dressage!! (Don’t tell him that!!) However we kept Sonny competing on his favourite things this month where he ran in the area 4 show cross qualifier at Epworth. Sonny was entered into the pair’s class with Faith and Jazz, but when Faith and Jazz had an unfortunate parting in the individual class one of our fellow members Ruth took up the ride on Jazz and joined me and Sonny in the pairs to replace Faith. We both had a fantastic ride and allowed Sonny to take the lead where he jumped a double clear and our team ended in 3rd place.
And the superstar of the month has got to go to little Whisper we’ve been working hard with her to get her ready for her first BE run of the season which was Northallerton. We had a very early start to make sure we got there in time to walk the course and get her well warmed up for dressage. Whisper took it all in her stride and was very calmed and relaxed while we were getting ready for dressage, once on board she was very excited to head over to the dressage warm up to get on with her job. We worked hard on the warm up and had some excellent advice from the dressage trainer where we managed to pull off a 31 dressage! (Her personal best!) Once back at the wagon she started to get excited when her jump tack appeared! We had a rather mixed warm up with a slide through the warm up fence which seemed to wake her up, and she did a fabulous clear round in the ring. Next was the fun phase once we persuaded her the start box wasn’t going to kill her she was off to a flying start and jumped a nice clear round with 11.2 TP which took us into 12 place.
This next month the team is hoping to have Ronaldo out BS in the Bronze League and heading out to more XC schooling to help his “nerves”. We are also hoping to get Sonny out to a BE event to keep him happy and stop him from trying to take out the others! For Whisper we are going to keep on working with her dressage to see if we can improve on her next score and I think some more XC schooling is in order to see if we can try to get inside the time.
Have a good month everyone and bye for now.
